Rose’s journey
About
Rose has worked hard to become proficient in much of the Adobe suite, developing expertise in programs such as Adobe Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and XD. Since she was an adolescent she has worked for the company Marketsnare, shadowing many professionals as she learned to write copy, understand SEO, code HTML, analyze business growth online, create and update hundreds of client business listings across the web, and more.
Background
Upon graduating high school with recognition from the National Honors Society, Rose made the decision to attend Biola University once accepted into Biola’s great books program, the Torrey Honor Society, now called the Torrey Honors College. In the summer of 2018, Rose moved from the Chicago suburbs to LA-county with big dreams to become someone who makes a difference. Rose is a self-taught designer, who spent her teenage years mastering programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, using her study hall periods to create illustrated portraits of friends, moving gifs of flowers and clouds, and editing photos, intrigued by her newfound ability to change even the colors of clothing in pictures. Since then she’s worked hard to cultivate design skills through university classes and working as a designer for Biola’s university magazine, The Point. After earning a degree in journalism, Rose has recognized in herself a passion for the law that she hopes to pursue in the future, but she is currently hoping to help companies develop their personal brands and create beautiful, eye-catching content for any and all of their publication needs.

The Biola University InkSlinger Team, 2019
Rose loves working with teams in creative spaces. In 2020 Rose worked as the main designer for Biola University’s literary journal, Inkslinger. The team met together often to sort through countless submissions and create the publication, but after the COVID19 pandemic forced Biola students off-campus part-way through the semester, how the team was going to approach completing the publication became an issue. In order to ensure that the journal was published on time, Rose designed the year’s entire journal alone from her laptop, as the team was only able to meet and work together over Zoom. Though working on a publication during Covid’s peak was an exciting challenge, Rose is looking forward to working with other creatives in person again.
At the 2020 ACP/CMBAM College Journalism Convention, The Point Magazine won many awards. The first-place award for Best Magazine Photo Series was awarded to Rose Nickols, Caitlin Gaines, and Grace Horvat, for their work on a photo story published in The Point’s 2019 Fall Issue.
